Situated along the shoreline of one of Putnam County’s private lake communities, this mid-century gem offered all the right ingredients for a nature-inspired renovation: expansive windows, sloped ceilings, skylights, and wood paneling throughout. While rich in character, its dated fixtures and finishes called for a refresh that would better reflect the owners’ desire for a colorful, spirited interior.
The great room, with its sweeping lake views, retains its wood-paneled warmth and character. A sculptural central sofa anchors the living area, complemented by a generous dining space and connected through an intimate fireplace seating nook. Adjacent, the renovated kitchen features white oak cabinetry extending to the ceiling and playful terrazzo countertops that honor the home’s mid-century roots while reestablishing the kitchen as the functional heart of the home.
Wood paneling continues along the central hallway, where a stacked laundry area is discreetly concealed behind sliding barn-style doors. Two full hall bathrooms, each with its own distinct personality, were refreshed in place. Terrazzo floor tile extends onto the walls as wainscoting and backsplashes, while vibrant ceramic tile surrounds bring color and texture to the shower spaces.
On the exterior, new windows, sliding doors, and roofing contribute to improved energy efficiency. Repainting the board-and-batten siding a deep blue draws inspiration from the lake’s hues and the shadowed tones of the surrounding woodland understory, helping the home blend seamlessly into its natural setting.
